What is Magick?

Magick is the act of applying beliefs, rituals, and actions for the sake of causing a desired outcome. It is an art, a science, and a spiritual practice. Through the combination of spiritual energy work, symbolism, ritual, prayer, etc. Magick is worked to manifest one's desires. There are some things to keep in mind when working Magick:

  • Personal Religious Beliefs, as this shapes how one sees the world, and how one understands certain symbolism.
  • The idea that like attracts like, aka sympathetic magic.
  • Intention is a lot, but NOT everything, contrary to what New Agers and trend-witches like to say. You MUST put in the work somehow. At the very least, you must do SOMETHING to attain your desire, even if it's as simple as a chant or prayer while focusing on what you desire.
  • When utilizing ingredients like herbs and stones, understand WHY you are using them for your desire, and tell them what to do.
  • The tools you may use in your rituals and rites may vary based on your specific tradition.
  • Magick in Witchcraft

Magick, especially sympathetic magic, folk magic, and ceremonial magick, are utilized in the Religion of Witchcraft. When working magick in the context of witchcraft, regardless of tradition, a witch will usually do the following:

  • Hallow Their Space, this means to make it sacred. This usually involves calling on the spirits one venerates, and in the case of Wicca, calling the guardians of the watchtowers
  • Utiize specific symbolism to attain their desire. For example, if one is working a love spell, they may utilize a pink candle, and invoke the Goddess and God of the witches as Aphrodite and Adonis.
  • Utilize herbs and stones aligned with their intention.
  • Of course, this is a very bare-bones example of working magick. You may have noticed I haven't compiled a list of symbolism, correspondences, etc, or full guides to performing ritual. This is because this is a 101. Simply to get the very basics down. Correspondences can vary based on a person, their trad, their background, etc. As for rituals, those will be written on other pages. I, as a dedicatory religious witch & NeoWiccan, work within that specific context, so my rituals, spells, and rites will be written based on that context.
